To Russia with Love 03 Scuderi by Skudo To Russia with Love 03 Scuderi by Skudo
This is the 3rd page of a comic that I did on the texts of Andreas Völlinger
about the law against gay people in Russia.
You can read it in German at this link

www.mycomics.de/comic/6914-es-…

And you can find it also in this month issue of the Austrian "Pride" magazine Nr.138/ Feb-2014
also on line here

Well, Valentin, maybe you just never really talked to all the LGBTI people in Russia who get harrassed, beaten and treated like 2nd class humans?

You should definitely check this out:

Hey, hey! It's personal stories. Gays live bad in any country. Tell me, they have been loved in England and France. People dislike LGBT. No matter russian they are or not. We are not a race of monsters. Many gays and lesbians live in Russia. Maybe not a life that they dream. But i don't see the reason to agression. You don't know the situation. You give me the links. What I can tell? It's people. Many are trying to draw attention to them. Many just love to feel sorry to themselves. It's people. I know russian people - they always find the reason to show them as victim. If you want to worry about Russia - worry about our HPU and corruption.

No, it's not "personal stories"! In Russia homosexuals are specifically discriminated by the state and there are no laws protecting them from violence and arbitrariness. Putin knows how convenient it is to have a minority you can use as scape goats and punching bags to detract from all the political and economical problems Russia has.

Funny you mention England and France because in these countries it is forbidden to discriminate against someone based on his/her sexuality. Great Britain (not just England) is one of the most gay-friendly states in the world, where civil partnerships between same-sex couples have been allowed since 2004 and the Same-Sex Marriage Act was introduced in 2013. And France introduced gay marriage in 2013. While there were admittedly many protests by biggots and religious zealots against it, the majority of the population is in favor of giving gay couples the same rights.

There are many people who dislike or even hate gay people in European countries, you are right about that one. But by now the majority accepts them. There are openly gay prime ministers in Belgium and in Luxemburg, a gay mayor in Berlin and there have been a lesbian prime minister in Iceland and a gay vice chancellor and foreign minister in Germany. And there are many gay representatives in the the parliaments of European countries. People voted for them because they don't care about their sexuality.

The homophobia in Russa meanwhile is on a new high. Maybe you should talk to some of your homosexual fellow citizens, if you know any which are not afraid to out themselves.

And here's some more recommented reading:

A wonderful way to express what we believe is right in Sochi, Russia. I also disapproved of Putin's anti-homosexual propaganda over there. If I were over there watching the Olympic games, I would definitely be wearing rainbow-colored clothes.
